Sudara Stories: Suja

We love sharing stories of the women who, as part of a skills-training program, sew together Punjammies. The Sudara Stories series highlights a few of these strong, amazing women. Today, we are honored to introduce Suja.

Suja’s Story of Hope and Freedom

Before finding our partner centers, Suja faced much sadness in her life. After two failed marriages, Suja was left feeling suicidal and helpless. Her first husband was murdered by her own parents in a property dispute. Under the guidance of her parents, she was then married a second time to a man who never took care of her and ultimately abused and tortured her.

Trapped in a horrible situation, Suja was depressed and wanted to end her life. That’s when a friend and student of our partner training courses brought her to a center when they were offering fast-track summer job skills training classes. Suja enrolled and graduated from a cosmetology program in June of 2017. She has now graduated and is working as a beautician in a local beauty parlor. Most importantly, Suja is now able to independently support herself and has found purpose in her life.

Thank you for investing in and empowering women like Suja to create a new life for herself. You can read more Sudara Stories here. And, find the Punjammies we named in honor and celebration of Suja here.
