Behind the Seams: Introducing the Jogger

This Fall, we are excited to introduce a new style to our collection…the jogger! With elastic smocking designed to fall just above the ankle, this new cut is easy to wear, fun, and one of the most versatile trends of the year. We hope you love them! We sat down with our in-house designer, Tessie Blake to talk about the inspiration and planning behind the jogger.

Sudara: Why did you decide to add the jogger silhouette to our collection?

Blake: My goal for introducing the jogger was to have a pant that could fit a variety of different heights and bodies without a need for hemming. The elastic smocking at the border of the pant means you can adjust the cuff as needed depending on the style you are going for–or the length of your legs. We wanted to make a multipurpose pant and having this on-trend silhouette means it can be worn comfortably as streetwear or for lounging.

Sudara: What was the process behind the design?

Blake: We knew we wanted to launch a jogger with the fall-winter line all the way back in April. On our team trip to India in January, I bought a pair of joggers and saw how versatile and comfortable they were, as well as how they continued to look stylish throughout our travels.

That’s my goal for Sudara: to offer luxurious, cute clothes that are easy to wear and move with you–no matter what the day brings.

To develop the jogger, we started with our Classic Full pant pattern and altered it to have a slimmer hip, tailored leg, and the elastic bottom. We got feedback and worked to refine the pattern again based on industry standards. The jogger fits cohesively into the Girlfriend line, it is cut slimmer and true to size for street wear.

Sudara: The jogger is currently offered in Leela, Desi, Dhana, and Varasi. Why did you choose to develop it in these prints?

Blake: We chose to launch the jogger in four different prints with a wide range of colors and patterns. We have two cotton styles (Leela and Desi) and two rayon options (Dhana and Varasi) for variety and to suit different preferences.

Sudara: What’s your personal favorite style?

Blake: I personally love the Varasi Jogger. It is a clean, black and white (and gorgeous) design that is super wearable and easy to style with everything.

Sudara: How will you style it for Fall?

Blake: This Fall, I will be likely pairing my Varasi joggers with a maroon or emerald green top and a moto jacket. Add some cute boots and the outfit will be perfect for anything.
