Smart Ways to Maximize Your Year-End Giving

A Guide for Sudara Freedom Fund Supporters

Year-end often inspires thoughtful giving, and we’re grateful that so many of you choose to include Sudara Freedom Fund in your plans. Your support directly fuels safety, dignity, and freedom for women and girls rising out of trafficking and vulnerability.

To help you give in the most effective and beneficial ways, we’ve outlined several tax-efficient options below.

Highlights of the New Tax Laws (Enacted July 2025)

In July 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) was signed into law. Several new provisions may affect your charitable giving in the year ahead:

1. New Deduction for Non-Itemizers (Beginning in 2026)

If you do not itemize your taxes, you’ll soon be able to deduct up to:

  • $1,000 for single filers

  • $2,000 for joint filers

This applies only to cash donations made directly to qualified public charities like Sudara Freedom Fund (not donor-advised funds, private foundations, or supporting organizations).

2. Charitable Deduction Floor for Itemizers (Beginning 2026)

Itemizers must now exceed 0.5% of AGI before any charitable deduction applies.
Example: If your AGI is $100,000, the first $500 of charitable gifts won’t be deductible. If you contribute $5,000, then $4,500 would count toward your deduction.

3. Extension of the 60% AGI Limit

Cash contributions to qualified charities remain deductible up to 60% of AGI each year, now permanently.

Proven Giving Strategies That Still Offer Big Benefits

Donating Appreciated Assets (Stocks, Bonds, Securities)

Gifting appreciated assets directly to Sudara Freedom Fund can:

  • Increase the impact of your gift

  • Potentially eliminate capital gains taxes

  • Allow you to claim the full market value as a charitable deduction (if you itemize)

This is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)

If you are 70½ or older, you can donate up to $105,000 directly from your IRA as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Benefits include:

  • Avoiding taxes on transfers of up to $105,000 (or $210,000 for couples)

  • Satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

  • Lowering your taxable income

  • Giving in a way that isn’t subject to standard charitable deduction limits

A QCD can be a powerful way to support freedom and restoration for the women we serve.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)

DAFs remain a flexible tool for strategic, tax-smart giving, especially if you want to “bunch” several years of charitable contributions into one tax year.

With a DAF, you can:

  • Receive an immediate tax deduction when you contribute to the fund

  • Allow your contribution to grow tax-free

  • Recommend grants to charities like Sudara Freedom Fund on your own timeline

If you intend to make year-end grants from your DAF, please note that processing can take up to two weeks, so we encourage you to submit requests early.
