How To Stay Productive While Traveling

We have already talked a little bit about what to bring with you on your next adventure and why traveling is great for mental health, but let’s face it, sometimes you need to take your work on the road and stay productive while traveling. Here at Sudara, we live for a balance of work and play… especially if it means working in your pajamas! Read on for our tips to stay productive while traveling.

Maximize downtime

Even on action-packed adventures, you will always have downtime. Layovers, evenings, and train rides all provide great opportunities to work. Even if it is only for the 10 minutes you are waiting in your robe to have the next shower time slot, commit to working in the in-between times as well. This not only means being flexible and ready to work when you can, but also planning ahead to ensure you have the right tools at the right time.

Bring tools to go remote

What do you need to meet your goals? It is the right app? Noise canceling headphones? A way to attend virtual meetings? Plan ahead for the tools you need and think through where you will need them. We are big fans of creating a “grab and go kit” in one of our totes or catch-all bags equipt with pens, chargers, post-its, and everything you need for remote work.

Take advantage of being offline

Don’t let unreliable wifi cramp your productivity. If you find yourself in a position where you need to work but can’t connect, prep a list of projects you can complete offline. Truly, this can be so refreshing when you have time to brainstorm, write content, be thoughtful about a work problem, or design without the distraction of the world wide web. Take a journal with you and get the creative juices flowing.

Practice self-care

Have you ever come back from a vacation and felt like you needed another vacation just to recover? Vacation hangover is a real thing. Be more productive and combat feeling run down while traveling by practicing some self-care. Want to know how?

  • Prioritize sleep at least every other night (psst, we have some cute PJ’s that can make that routine a lot more exciting!)
  • Make an effort to drink more water and less alcohol
  • Take at least 15 minutes to be alone and quiet every day, even if that means running an errand solo or taking an extra-long bathroom break.

Set clear expectations (for yourself and others)

Even if you follow all of our tips above, it will not be the same as being in the office or your everyday workspace–and that is a good thing! Embrace being productive while traveling but don’t try to overschedule yourself or take on too much. Be realistic and upfront about what you can get done and celebrate the opportunities you have to do work that you never get around to completing when in the office!
